The large-scale European project "Policies in the field of recycling, implemented in the EU member states" held its final conference in Sofia in the Hotel Rodina in the period 21-23.10.2014. Over the course of three years, 13 EU countries, including the Bulgarian capital, they exchanged experience and good practices in the name of better activity in the sector. A framework directive requires 50% of household waste in the EU to be recycled within 5 years. At this stage, the average number for the community is 40 percent, with differences among individual member countries ranging from 1 to 70 percent. The capital's mayor, Yordanka Fandakova, welcomed the participants to the forum and emphasized that recycling should be part of the general approach to a circular economy, which effectively reduces the impact on the environment and saves resources.
